Adverse Reaction:
Nausea and vomiting, diarrhea. Chemical liver dysfunction occurs in 25% of the patients. Hematological toxicity has been rare, most often involoving mild decreases in hemotocrit.
Mild to moderate abnormalities of glucose tolerance have generally been reversible, but insulin shock with hypoglycemia has occured. Confusion,lethargy and depression have occurred
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Metastatic islet cell carcinoma of the pancreas
Daily schedule- 500mg/m2 of body surface area BSA for 5 concesutive days every 6 weeks until maximum benefit or until treatment limiting toxicity is observed
Dosage increases are not recommended

STREPTOZOCIN - SYSTEMIC
1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
Streptozocin.
2.Pregnancy-
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to have children. There is a chance
that this medcine may cause birth defects if either the male or female is taking it
at the time of conception or if it is taken during pregnancy.
3. Breast-feeding-
Because streptozocin may cause serious side effects, breast-feeding is
generally not recommended while you are receiving it.
4.Children-
There is no specific information comparing streptozocin in children with use
in other age groups.
5.Older adults-
There is no specific information comparing use of streptozocin - in the elderly
with use in other age groups.
6. Other medicines-
Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medicines.
Anti-infectives by mouth or by injection or
Carmustine or
Cisplatin or
Combination pain medicines acetaminophen and aspirin or
Cyclosporine or
Deferoxamine or
Gold salts or
Lithium or
Methotrexate
Penicilinamine or
Plicamycin or
Tiopronin - increased risk of harmful effects on the kidney
Phenytoin - may interfere with the effects of streptozocin
7. Other medical problems-
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Chickenpox or
Herpes zoster- risk of severe disease affecting other parts of the
body
Diabetes mellitus - may be worsened
Infection- streptozocin can decrease your bodys ability to fight infection
Kidney disease or
Liver disease - effects of streptozocin may be increased because
of slower removal from the body.
Pharmacology/ Pharmacokinetics:
Pharmacology: Streptozocin inhibits DNA synthesis in bacterial and mammalian cells. The biochemical examination leading to mammalian cell death has not been established.
Pharmacokinetics: After IV injection, unchanged drug is rapidly cleared from the plasma(half-life 35 minutes). Most excretion is completed in 24 hrs.
