Nasal decongestants include- Arylalkalamine- Phenylpropanolamine, Pseudoephedrine, Phenylephrine, Epinephrine, Ephedrine, Desoxyephedrine, Irridazolines- Naphazoline, Oxymetazoline, Tetrahydrozoline, Xylomethazoline, Cycloalkyamine- Propylhexedrine
Refer Phenylpropanolamine
Hypotension with MAOIs, tricyclic antidepressants, ganglion blocking agents, adregenic blocking drugs, reserpine and methyldopa
Incompatible with butacaine.
Prolongs effect of local anaesthetics.

Adverse Reaction:
Persistent/severe hypertension. Fear,anxiety, restlessness, tremor, insomnia, confusion, bradycardia, tachycardia and arrhythmias, retension of urine, dysponea, weakness, headache.
Nasal drops:Local irritation,rebound congestion,systemic side effect
. Eye drops: Intense irritation, systemic side effects(in high concentration and infants). Inhalations:Cough and irritation,epigastric pain if swallowed.
Contra-Indications:
Hyperthyroidism,narrow angle glaucoma. Patients receving MAOIs, resperine, guanethedine. Not for infants.
Special precautions: Dilute 1:1 for 5% & 1:3 for 10% in sterile physiological solution for use in children, hypotension, unstable angina, recent M.I., pregnancy.
