Adverse Reaction:
GI upset, G-I bleeding, Haemorrhagic colitis, Respiratory infection, dizziness, fatigue, headache, insomnia, Convulsions, vertigo, delirum, Abnormal behaviour, delusions, Agitation, anxiety, nightmares, Cough, hypothermia
Contra-Indications:
Children below 6 mths.

Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Prevention of influenza including H1N1 when virus is in community
Dosage-
75mg twice daily for 5 days starting within 2 days of exposure to an infected individual and continued for 10 days or upto 6 weeks during an epidemic
children below 6 mts - not recommended during a pandemic only - 6-12 mths 3mg/kg 1-12 yrs under 15g 30mg , 15-23kg 45mg, 23-40kg 60mg over 40kg - 75mg all twice daily for 5 days
Patient Information:
1. Inform patients that some HIV medicines, including Oseltamivir may cause a rare but
serious condition called lactic acid acidosis with liver enlargement(hepatomegaly)
2. Oseltamivir is not a cure for HIV infection, and patients may continue to experience
illness associated with HIV infection, including oppurtunistic infection.
3.Patients should remain under the care of a healthcare provider when using Oseltamivir
4.Advice patients that the use of Oseltamivir has not shown to reduce the risk of
transmission of HIV to others through sexual contact or blood donation.
5.Inform patients that redistribution or body fat may occur in patients receiving
antiretroviral therapy, and the cause and long term health effects of these
conditions are not known at this time.
6. Advice patients of the importance of taking HIV medicines as prescribed
