Immunisations with live vaccines not recommended as daunorubicin is immunosuppressant. Concurrent radiation leads to enhanced radiation reactions.

Incompatible with heparin in solution, aluminium and dexamethasone.

Remission induction in acute nonlymphatic leukemia.

Bone marrow suppression. Cardiac toxicity, cardiomyopathy and CCF. Bone marrow suppression, GI disturbances, stomatitis, Alopecia, and dermatological reactions. Extravasation of daunorubicin may cause severe local tissue necrosis damaging surrounding muscles ,tendons and nerves.

Heart failure.

Special precautions:

Regular blood count and ECG.

Indications:

Remission induction in acute nonlymphatic leukemia.

Dosage:

For IV use only..

Patients less than 60 years - 45mg/sqm/day IV on days 1,2,3 of first course and days 1 and 2 of subsequent dose and cytosine arabinoside 100mg/sqm/day IV infusion.

Patient more than 60 years - 30mg/sqm/day.

Cardiomyopathy- ( 1141 )

The term cardiomyopathy is used to indicate a disease entity in which the presenting signs and symptoms result entirely or prodominantly from dysfunction of the myocardiam, Hoewever, myocardial lesions produced by ischemic heart disease, hypertensive cardiovascular disease or pulmonate, valvular heart disease and congintinal heart disease are excluded.

1. Allergies- Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reactions to daunorubicin or other related medicines. Also tell your doctor if youn are allergic to any other substances such as foods, preservatives or dyes.

2. Pregnancy- knowen to cause birth defects if either the male or femal is receiving it at the time of conception or it is taken during pregnancy. In addition manybcancere drugs may cause sterilty

3. Breast feeding- not recommended

4. Children- no specific information comparing use in children use in children with use in other age groups.

5. Elderly- heart problems are more likely to occur in the elderly. who are more sensitive to daunorubicin. Elderly likely to cause more blood problems.

6. Other medicines- tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following- Ampottericin B by injection or Antithyroid drugs or Azathioprine or Chloramphenicol or Colchicine or Flucytosine or Ganciclovir or Intereferon or Plicamycin or Zidovudine - if uou have ever been treated with radiation or cancer medicines - danuorubicin may increase the effects of these medicines or radiation theapy on the blood Probenecid or Sulfinpyrazone - daunorubicin may raise the concentration of uric acid in the blood. since these medicines are used to lower uric acid , they may not as effective in patients receiving daunorubicin

7. Other medical problems- tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems- Chicken pox or Herpes Zoster - risk of severe disease affecting other parts of the body Gout or Kidney stones - daunorubicin may increae uric acid in the body which can cause gout or kidney stones Heart disease - risk of heart problems caused by danurubicin may be increased Infection- daunorubicin can decrease your body ability to fight infection Kidney disease or Liver disease - effects of danurubicin may be increased because of slower removal from the body

8. Missed dose- If you miss a dose of this medicine take it as soon as possible. However if it is almost time for your next dose go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
