Diabetic neuropathy
Adverse Reaction:
Skin rash, reduced absorption of iron and other minerals may occur.
Hypoglyceamic reported in some diabetic patients
Contra-Indications:
Pregnancy and lactation
Monitor blood glucose regularly

300 - 600 mg once a daily preferably in an empty stomach.

Pharmacology:
Alpha-lipoic acid plays an esstential role in mitochondrial dehydragenenase reactions. Lipoate orits reduced form, dihydrolipoate has been shown toreact with reactive oxygen species such as superoxide radicals, hydroxyl radicals, hypochlorus acid, proxyl radicals and singlet oxygen.
Pharmacokinetics:
Following single administration, an elevation of the maximum blood concentration and an increase of alpha-lipoic acid elimination half-life in patients with liver cirrhosis.
