Dosage:
Adults- usual dose by SC or IM injection is 0.5 to 1 ml. Depending on severity of the asthmatic
attacks, smaller doses(0.3 to 0.5ml) may suffice
Children- dosage varies according to age and weight- usual dose is 0.1 to 0.5ml
Storage- protect from light

Refer- Ephedrine- Inhalation
1. Do not exceed the recommended dosage, excessive use may lead to adverse effect or loss of efectiveness.
2. Do not stop or adjust the dose.
3. Do not change brands without consulting the physician or the pharmacist.
4. If more than one inhaltion is necessary,wait for at least one full minute between inhalitions (administer the
second inhalation at 3 to 5 minutes for isoproternol and epinephrine, 2 minutes for metoproternol ).
5. Notify physician of failure to respond to usual dosage or of dizziness or chest pain.
6. Isopreternol may cause the patients saliva to turn pinkish-red.
7. Allergies- Tell your doctor if you had any unusual or allergic reactions to albuterol, bioterol, epinephrine, fenoterol, isoetharine, isoproterenol, metaproternol, pirbuterol, procaterol, racepinephrine, terbutaline or other inhalation medicines. Also tell your doctor if you are allergic to any other substances such as foods, or prservatives or dyes.
8. Pregnancy-
For albuterol-
not studied in pregnant women. However studies in animals have shown that albuterol, have shown that albuterol causes birth defects when given in doses many times the usual human dose. In addition albuterol has been reported to delay preterm labor when taken by mouth. It has not been shown to stop preterm labor or prevent labor.
For ephedrine-
have not been studied in humans or in animals. When ephedrine is usedj ust before or during labor, its effects on
newborn infant or on the growth and development of the child are not known.
For epiephrine-
not studied in pregnant women. However studies in animals have shown that epinephrine causes birth defects
when given in doses many times the human dose. Also use of epinephrine during pregnancy may decrease the
supply of oxygen to the fetus. Epinephrine is not recommeded for use during labor since it may delay the second
stage of labor.
For ethylnorepinephrine and isoproterenol-
not studied in humans or animals
For fenoterol-
has not been shown to cause birth defects or other problems in humans.
For metaproterenol-
hasnot ee studied in pregnant women. Studies in animals have shown that metaproternol causes birth defects
when given in doses many times the usual human dose. Also studies have shown tat metaproternol causes death
of animal fetus when given in doses many times the usual human dose.
For terbutaline-
has not been studied in pregnant women.Shown to cause birth defects in aimal studies when given in doses many
times the usual human dose. Terbulatine injection given during pregnancy reported to cause unusally fast heart
beat in the fetus. Terbutaline is used to delay preterm labor , it may also delay labor at term.
9. Breast-feeding-
For albuterol, fenoterol, isoproterenol, metaproprenol-
not known whether these drugs pass into breast milk. Although most medicines pass ito breast milk in small amounts, many of them may be used safely while breast feeding. Mothers who are taking this medicine and who wish to breast feed should discuss this with their doctor.
For ephedrine and epinephrine-
ephidrine and epinephrine pass into the breast milk, and may cause unwanted side effects in babies of mothers using ephedrine or epinephrine.
For terbutalene-
passes into breast milk. Mothers who are taking this medicine and who wish
to breast feed should discuss this with their doctor.
10. Children-
no specific information comparing use of albuterol, ethylnorepinephrine, fenoterol, isoproterenol, metaprterenol,
or terbutaline in children with use in other age groups. These medicines are not expected to caue any differet side effects or problems in chldren than they do in adults.
Infants and children may be more sensitive to the effects of ephidrine.
11. Elderly-
no specific iformation comparing use of adrenergic bronchodilators in the elderly with use in other age grups.
12. Other medicines- Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines-
Betablockers - acebutol, atenolol, betatexol, bisoprolol, cartelol, labetol, levobunol, nadolol, oxeprenol, penbutol, pinodol, propranolol- these medicines may prevent the adrenergic bronchdilators from working properly.
Cocaine or
Ergoloidmesylate or
Ergotamie or
Maprotiline or
Tricyclic antidepressants - the effecte of these medicines on herat and blood vessels may be increased
Digitalis glycosides - chane of irregular heartbet may be increased
Monoamine oxidase inibitors - using adrenergic bronchodilators while you are taking or within 2 weeks of
of taking MAOI may incr the effects of MAOI
13. Other medical problems- Tell your doctor if you have other medical problems especially-
Brain damage
Convulsions
Diabetes mellitus -adrenergic bronchodilators may make the condition worse, your doctor may need to
change the dose of your diabetes medicine.
Enlarged prostrate- ephedrine may make the condition worse.
Heart or blood vessel disease or
High blood pressure - adrenergic bronchodilators may make the condition worse
Mental disease- epinephrine may makethe condition worse
Overactive thyroid -change ofsie efects my be ncreased
Parkinsons disease- epinephrine may temporarily increase certain symptoms of the Parkinsons disease
such as rigidity and tremor.
14. Missed dose-
If you miss of this medicine take it as soon as possible.
Then use the remaining doses for that day at regularly spaced intervals
Do not double doses.
15. Storage -
Keep out of reach of children. Store away from heat or direct sunlight.
Store the aerosol form of this medicine away from direct sunlight.
Keep the medicine fromfreezing
Do not stoe the capsule or tablet for of this drug near the bathroom, kitchensink, or in damp places
15. Outdated medicines -
Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed. Be sure that any
discarded medicine is out of reach of children.
