Drug Interaction:
Drug/lab interactions- Heparin preparations containg sodium bisulfite reduce the absorption peak of indocyanine green in blood
Do not use heparin as an anticoagulant for the collection of samples for analysis
Indication:
Angiography - opthalmic angiography In vivo diagnostics - for determining cardiac output , hepatic function, and liver blood flow
Adverse Reaction:
Febrile response, local tenderness, abscess, tissue necrosis, or injection at injection site. Hypernatremia associated with oedema and exacerbation of CHF due to retention of water, resulting in expanded cellular fluid volume.
Contra-Indications:
Hypernatremia, fluid retension, when the administration of sodium or chloride could be clinically detrimental.
Special precautions:
Bacteriostatic sodium chloride- Do not use in new borns. Benzyl alcohol as a preservative in bacteriostatic sodium chloride injection has been associated with the toxicity in the new born. Conc sod chloride injection- is hypertonic and must be diluted before use.
Surgical patients- should seldom receive salt-containing solutions immediately after surgery unless surgical factors producing salt depletion is present.
Renal function impairment- Infusions of sodium ions may result in excessive sodium retension.
Pregnancy- not known whether sodium chloride can cause foetal harm.
Lactation- Not known whether sodium chloride is excreted in breast milk.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Angiography - opthalmic angiography In vivo diagnostics - for determining cardiac output , hepatic function, and liver blood flow
Dosage-- Use 40mg dye in 2ml aqueous solvent
