Pharmacology/ Pharmacokinetics:
Pharmacology:
Patients with severe dry eyes usually responds to treatment with eye drops or artificial tears containing compounds such as polyvinyl alcohol, povidone, carbomer, hypromellose and other cellular ethers. The advantages associated with effective tear substitute formulation include- effective management of dry eyes syndrome use in patients sensitive to perservatives and in contact lens wearers
Ployvinyl alcohol being a nonionic surfactant , it is soluble in water. It is used as stabilising agent and as lubricant in various opthalmic preparations. The viscocity enhancing property in prolonging contact of the active ingrendient with eye is expected to produce better results.
Povodone is a synthetic polymer used as artificial tears as as solution for contact lens care. The solubility of a number of poorly soluble active drugs may be increased by mixing with poviodone
Pregnancy and lactation:
Since there is no information regarding the use of this combination in pregnant and nursing women ,carefully study and assess the matter in these populations
