Drug Interaction:
Enema and suppositories.
May enhance absorption of laxatives.hence should be given 2 hrs prior.
Adverse Reaction:
Bitter taste,throat irritation,nausea,rash.
Prolonged use may lead to diarrhoea.
Discolours urine and may interfere with urinary diagnostic tests.
Enema and suppositories: Hypersensitivity reaction
Contra-Indications:
Known hypersens.
Spastic constipation,intestinal obstruction.Electrolyte imbalance hypokalaemia in particular.
Special precautions:
Prolonged indiscriminate use may lead to habituation.
Employ lowest effective dose for re-establishment of bowel function.
Prescription and/or supervision by physician required when treatment exceeds 1 mth.,after abdominal surgery, in children below 6 yrs,during pregnancy.
