Azathropine +
ACE inhib
concurrent use may induce severe leukopenia
Allopurinol
allopurinol may increase the pharmacologic and toxic effects of azathioprine
Methotrexate
plasma levels of the 6-MP metabolite may be increased

Anticaogulants
azathioprine may decrease the action of the anticoagul
Cyclosporine
cyclosporine plasma levels may be decreased
Non deplorarising neuromuscular blockers

Immunosuppressant drugs include-

Renal hemotransplantation, adjunct for prevention of rejection in renal hemotransplantation, rheumatoid arthiritis.
Adverse Reaction:
Myleosuppression,mutagenicity and carcinogenicity.
Generally reversible bone marrow depression (esp leucopenia, thrombocytopenia) anorexia, Nausea,diarrhoea, Secondary infections,
Pancreatitis, Hepatotoxicity, Rash, alopecia.
Contra-Indications:
Immunosuppression,hypersens,previous treatment with alkylating agents.
Special precautions:
Leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, hepatic impairment, regular blood counts, pregnancy.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indications:
Renal hemotransplantation, adjunct for prevention of rejection in renal hemotransplantation, rheumatoid arthiritis.
Dosage:
Initial dose usually 3 to 5mg/kg/day given as a single dose.
Rheumatoid arthiritis - initial dose Img/kg(50 to 100mg) given as a single dose.
Maximum dose 2.5mg/kg/day.

Pharmacology:
Azathioprine is an imidazoyl derivative of 6-mercaptopurine(6-MP) has many biological effects similar to those of the parent compound.
Pharmacokinetics:
Azathioprine is well absorbed following oral admin. Maximum serum radioactivity occurs at 1 to 2 hours after oral radioactive azathioprine and decays with a half-life of 5 hours.
Interaction with Food:
Preferably taken with or after meals to reduce GI discomfort
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy:
Azathioprine can cause fetal harm when administered to pregnant women. Excercise caution and whenever possible avoid using the drug on pregnant patients.
Lactation:
Use in nursing mothers not recommended.
