Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine Do not attempt immunization of patients < 10 days prior to or during treatment with immunosuppressive drugs or irradation
Defer administration in presence of acute respiratory or other active indications.
Pregnancy- Use only when clearly needed and when the potential benefits outweigh the potential hazard to the fetus. Ideally vaccinate women at high risk before pregnancy
Lactation- Excercise caution when administering to a nursing woman.
Children- Not recommended for children < 2 yrs of age

PNEUMOCOCCAL VACCINE POLYVALENT - Systemic
1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
pneumococcal vaccine. Also tell your healthcare care professional if you
are allergic to any other substances such as foods, preservatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy-
Studies have not been done in humans or animals. However, if the
vaccine if needed, it should be given after the first three of pregnancy and
only to women who have certain diseases or condition that make them
susceptible to pneumococcal infections or more likely to develop
pneumococcocal infections
3. Breast-feeding-
It is known whether pnemococcal vaccine passes into breast milk. Mothers
who are taking this medicine and who wish to breast feed should discuss this
with their doctor.
4.Children-
Use of pneumococcal vaccine is not recommended in infants and children
younger than 2 years of age. In children 2 years and older, this vaccine
is not expected to cause different side effects or problems than it does
in adults.
5.Older adults-
Although there is no specific information comparing use of this medicine
in the elderly with use in other age groups, it is not expected to cause
different side effects or problems in older people than in younger adults.
6. Other medicines-
Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medicine-
Pneumococcocal vaccine injection of any kind in the past- may
increase thechance of and severity of side effects.
7. Other medical problems-
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Severe illness with fever- the symptoms of the illness may be confused
with the possible side effects of the vaccine
Thrombocytopenic purpura ( blood disorder) - use of pneumococcal
vaccine may make the condition worse.
