Adverse Reaction:
Human Diploid Cell Rabies Vaccine (HDCV)- Transcient pain, erythema, swelling, or itching at the injectin site. Treat such reactions with simple anlgesics
Mild sytemic reactions- headche, nausea, abdominal pain, muscle aches, and dizziness Rabies vaccine adsorbed (RVA)- transcient pain, redness and swelling at the injection site
Contra-Indications:
Contraindicated in persons who have had life threatening allergic reactions to rabies vaccine or any other components Special preacutions- Route of administration- Imovax Rabies Vaccine and Rabies Vaccine Adsorbed- Inject IM only in the deltoid area, possible vaccine failure mauy occur if injected in the gluteel area. Do not inject ID. Imovax Rabies ID Vaccine- Inject ID only, do not inject IM.
Warnings- Guillian Barre syndrome- two cases of acute polyradiculoneuropathy that resolved within 12 weeks, and a focal subacute CNS disorder temporally associated with HDCV have been reported. Immune complex -like reactions- A significant increase has been noted in -immune complex -like- reactions in persons receiving booster doses of HDCV.
Hypersensitivity- may give antihistamines. Have epinephrine available to counteract anaphylactic reactions.
Pregnancy- Give Rabies vaccine to pregnant woman only if clearly needed.
Lactation- Problems in humans have not been documented.
Children- Safe and effective use is established for persons > 6 years of age.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Post exposure treatment and Prophylaxis against rabies
Dosage-
Pre-exposure prophylaxis- vaccine doses on days - 0, 7, 21 to 28,and then every 2 to 5 years based on antibody titers. Route and site- the deltoid area is the only acceptable site for post-exposure vaccination

RABBIES VACCINE- SYSTEMIC
1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
Rabies vaccine or to cow (bovine) serum, human albumin, kanamycin,
monkey proteins, neomycin, ploymixin B or thimersol, since some of
these proteins may also be present in the vaccine. Also tell your healthcare
care professional if you are allergic to any other substances such as foods,
preservatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy-
Studies have not been done in humans or animals. However, the use of rabies
vaccine in pregnant women, has not been reported to cause problems.
3. Breast-feeding-
Rabies vaccine has not been reported to cause any problems in nursing
babies.
4.Children-
This vaccine is not expected to cause different side effects or problems
than it does in adults.
5.Older adults-
There is no specific information comparing use of rabies vaccine in the
elderly with use in other age groups
6. Other medicines-
Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medicines.
Cancer medicines or
Corticosteroids or
Medicines to prevent malaria such as chloroquine, hyroxychloroquine
or mefloquin
Radiation therapy- these treatments may reduce the effect of the vaccine
7. Other medical problems-
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Illness, severe with fever- the symtoms of the condition may be confused
with the possible side effects of the vaccine.
Immune deficienct conditions- may decrease the useful effects of the vaccine

Pharmacology-
Rabies vaccine is avilable as a human diploid -cell- vaccine (HDVC) and adsorbed vaccine (RVA)
