Drug Interaction:
Since Himplasia has dual mechanism of action , the drug interactions were studied with protype compounds from alpha reductase inhibitors annd alpha adrenoceptor blockers. No significant drug interactions have been reported in experimental studies.
Indication:
Benign prostatic hyperplasia
Adverse Reaction:
Various clinical trials have been conducted using Himplasia for various periods from 3 months to 1 year .
No adverse effects were observedc including hypersensitivity in any patient during the trial period.
Contra-Indications:
Nil Special precautions-
Himpasia should be used with caution in patients with hypertension.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Dosage-
One tablet twice daily. The treatment for BPH requires long-term administration. The response to tretment should be asessed individually with appropriate urodynamic monitoring.
The optimum response may be seen after 6 months to 1 year.
Pharmacology/ Pharmacokinetics:
Pharmacology-
Himplasia inhibits prostatic enlaregement in a dose dependent manner. Experimental studies have shown that Himplasia restricts prostatic tissue proliferation .
Himplasia possesses both alpha- adrenoceptor antagonistic and and 5-alpha -reductase enzyme inhibitory activities.By inhibiting enzyme 5-alpha-reductase , Himplasia reduces tissue concentration of DHT,the hormone involved in BPH. By blocking alpha-adrenorecptor activity, Himplasia decreases the resistence along the prostatic urethra by relaxing the smooth muscle component of the prostrate
Pharmacokinetics-
Himplasia relieves the symptoms and reduces the size of the prostrate due to the synergestic actions of its herbs. Hence it is not feasible to study the pharmacokinetics of Himplasia. However, pharmacodynamic charactertics like peak flow rate of urine along with resultant decrease in prostrate size and relief in the symptoms of prostatitis may be considered alternative methods to measure bioavailability levels.
