Diabetic neuropathic ulcers
Adverse Reaction:
Adverse reactions-
Ulcer related adverse reactions - infection, cellulitis, or osteomyletis
Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity reactions
Special Reactions -
Do not use it on wounds that close by primary intention
Exposed joints, tendons, ligaments, bone- the effects of becapermin exposed joints , tendons, ligaments, and bones have not been established in humans
Hypersensitivity - if application site reactions occur, consider the possibility of sensitization or irritation caused by parabens or m-cresol.
Pregnancy- give becaplermin to pregnannt woman only if clearly indicated.
Lactation- excercise caution when becaplermin is administered to breast-feeding women.
Children- safety and efficacy of becaplermin in children and adolesents younger than 16 years of age have not been established.
Elderly- no overall differences in safety or effectiveness were observed between patients
younger than 65 years and patients 65 years of age
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indication-
Diabetic neuropathic ulcers
Dosage -
For external use only.
Apply calculated length of gel by sqeezing on a clean mesuring
surface eg. wax paper. The measured becaplermin is then transferred from the clean
measuring surface using an application aid and then spread over the entire area to
yield a thin continuous layer of approx. 1/16 of an inch thickness
Patient Information:
1. Advice patients to wash their hands before applying becaplermin
2. Use a cotton swab , tongue depressor, or other application aid to apply becaplermin
3. Only apply becaplermin once a day in a carefully measured quantity.
Evenly spread the measured quantity of gel over the ulcerated area to yeild
a thin conitinous layer of approx, 1/16th of an inch thickness
