Adverse Reaction:
Adverse reactions are.rare but include-
in decreasing order of frequency , nausea, vomiting, chest pain, tachcardia, itching pain,
rash and hoves
Contra-Indications:

Special Precautions/Warning-
Radioactivity - contents are radioactive. Adequate sheilding must be maintained
Handle with care - sodium iodide I 123 as well as other radioactive drugs must be
handled with care and appropriate safety measures should be used
Pregnancy - Examination using radiopharmaceuticals especially elective in nature
in women of child bearing age capability should be peformed during the
first few ( approx ) 10 days following onset of mensus.
Lactation- formula feeding should be substituted for breast feeding if the agent must be
administered to the mother during lactation
Children - safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:

Thyroid function studies
Dosage-
recommended oral dose for the average 70kg is 3,7 to 14,8 megabecquerals MBq
100 to 400 uCi . The lower part of the dosage range 3.7 MBq ( 100uCi ) is recommended
for uptake studies and the higher part, 14.8MBq ( 400uCi ) for thyroid imaging
Storage - contains are radioactive and adequate sheilding and handling precautions
must be maintained.
Pregnancy and lactation:
