Indication:
Contraction of the gall bladder
Adverse Reaction:
Most frequent adverse reactions-
abdominal discomfort or pain and nausea. Rapid IV injection causes transcient abdominal
cramping
Other Adverse reactions-
flushing, sweating, rash, hypotension, hypertension, shortness of breath, urge to defecate,
headache, diarrhea, sneezing and numbness
Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity to the drug
Special Precautions/Warnings-
Gall bladder stones-stimulation of gallbladder contraction in patients with small gall bladder stones may lead to evacuation of the stones resulting in lodging in the cystic duct or the common bile duct. The risk is minimal because sincalide when given as directed does not ordinarily cause complete contraction of the gallbladder.
Pregnancy - use this drug during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Lactation- do not administer sincalide to a breat feeding woman
Children- safety and efficacy in children has not been established
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indication-
Contraction of the gall bladder
Dosage-
0.02mcg/kg ( 1.4mcg/70Kg ) injected over 30 to 60 seconds . If satisfactory contraction of
the gall bladder does moy occur in 15 minutes,
A second dose (.04mcg/kg ) may be given.
To reduce the intestinal side effects, an IV nfusion may be prepared at a dose
of 0.12mcg/kg in 100ml. of sodium chloride injection and given at the rate of 2ml/min,
Alternately, an IM dose of 0.1mcg/kg may be given
Storage- store at room temp. 15 to 30C 9 59 to 86F
