Adult dosage-
A tuberculin syringe containing 1ml of (10mg ) of edrophonium chloride is prepared with
a intravenous needle and 0.2ml( 2mg ) is injected intravenously within 15 to 30seconds.
The needle is left in situ . Only if no reaction occurs after 45 seconds is the remaining
0.8ml ( 8mg ) injected
If a cholinergic reaction (muscaranic side effects, skeletal muscle fasciculations and increased
muscle weakness ) occurs after injection of 2ml, (2mg ) the test is discontinued and atropine
sulphate 0.4mg to 0.5mg is administered intravenously . After one-half hour the test may be
repeated.
Pediatric dosage-
The intravenous testing dose of endrophonium chloride, in childrem weighing up to 75lbs is
0.1ml ( 1mg ). Above this weight the dose is 0.2ml (2mg) .
If there is no response after 45 seconds, it may be titrated upto 0.5ml (5mg ) is injected in
children under 75lb, given in increments of 0.1ml(1mg ) every 30 to 45 seconds and upto
1ml (10mg) and heavier children to infants, the recommended dose is 0.05ml (0.5mg )
