Maximum dose - budesonide 640mcg/formoterol 18mcg
( given as 2 inhaltion of budesonide 160mg/formoterol 4.5mcg twice daily)
for patients 12 years of age and older
General dosing considerations- budesonide.formoterol should not be used for transferring
patients from systemic corticosteroid therapy
Long acting beta-2 adrenergic agonists may increase the risk of asthma related deaths.
Therefore when treating patients with asthma budesonide/formoterol should only be used
for patients not adequately controlled on other asthma -controller medication
Budesonide/formoterol is not indicated for patients whose asthma can be successfully
mangaged by inhaled corticosteroids or other controller medications along with occasional
use of inhaled short acting beta-2-agonnists.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD-
for the twice daily maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease COPD including chronic bronchitis and emphysema
Budesonide 160mg/formoterol 4.5mcg is the only approved dosage for the treatment of
airflow obstruction in COPD
