Antacids-
CNS depressants, alcohol, anticholenrergics, narcotic analgesics,
type 1 antiarrhythmics, antihistamines, phenothiazines, tricyclics,
other psychotic agents, aniconvulsants, cimetidine, rifampicin
Indication:
Adjunct to peptic ulcer
Irritable bowel syndrome
Adverse Reaction:
Dry mouth, blurred vision, droesiness, muscle weakness, constipation,
unsteadiness, vertigo, g-i upset, rash, impaired alertness, and dexterity
urinary retension, changes in libido
paradoxical excitement
Contra-Indications:
Glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, or urinary obstruction, jaundice
Special precautions-
chronic pulmonary insufficiency, avoid alcohol, debillated elderly patients
sedation, dependence, unstable cardiovasscular status
severe ulcerative colitis, reflux esophagitis, porphyria
impaired renal function,
test hepatic function and blood counts in prolonged use
History of alcohol or drug abuses
Avoid long term use. Withdraw slowly
Avoid during pregnancy and lactation
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indication-
Adjunct to peptic ulcer
Irritable bowel syndrome
Dosage-
1-2 tablets thrice daily before meals at bed time.
Maximum 8 tablets daily
Elderly or debiliated- 1 tablet twice daily then increase gradually
children- not recommended
Pregnancy and lactation:
Avoid during pregnancy and lactation
