Reduction in heart rate and cardiac output during anaesthesia in patients with marked impairment of Mycardial infaction.
Concurrent use with digitalis,verapramil & lignocaine may cause bradycardia, myocardial depression or A.V.block.
Severe hypotension & heart failure may occur when used with nifedipine.
Antihypertensive effect antagonised by indomethicin.
Inhibits reflex tachycardia produced by vasodilators like hydrazine and minodoxil.
Indication:
Hypertension. Used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs.
Ventricular arrhythmias- management of ventricular premature beats.

Adverse Reaction:
Sudden withdrawal associated with severe angina/MI. Dizzines,tiredness,lassititude,nausea.
Interference with estimation of urinary caticholamines.
Contra-Indications:
Cardiogenic shock.
Untreated heart failure.Bradycardia.
Bronchospastic diseases. Hypoglycaemia.
Special precautions:
Congestive heart failure,
Do not stop treatment abruptly.
Anaesthesia.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:

Hypertension. Used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs.

Dosage:
Take with or without food
Hypertension- initial dose 400mg in mild to moderate hypertension.
May be given in a single daily dose, but 200mg twice daily may be required for adequate control.
