Peripheral Vasodilators- Isoxsuprine hcl, Papaverine hcl, Hydralazine hcl, Minodoxil, Epoprostenol sodium, Tresprostinil sodium,
Pharmacology:
Papaverine is an alkaloid derived from crude opium; it has no narcotic properties. Papaverine directly relaxes the tonus of all smooth muscle, especially when it has been spasmodically contracted. vasodilation may be related to its ability to inhibit cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase, thus increasing levels of intracellular cyclic AMP.
Pharmacokinetics:
Oral bioavialability is about 54%. Peak plasma levels occur 1 to 2 hours after an oral dose. Papaverine is metabolised in the liver. The drug is excreted in the urine in an inative form.
