SULFONAMIDE AND PHENAZOPYRIDINE - SYSTEMIC
1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
Sulfa medicines, furosemide, thiazide diuretics etc. Also tell your
healthcare care professional if you are allergic to any other substances
such as foods. preservatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy-
Studies in animals have shown that some sulfonamides cause birth defects,
including cleft palate and bone problems. In additon, sulfa medicines may
cause liver problems in new born infants. Therefore, use is not recommended
during pregnancy
3. Breast-feeding-
Sulfonamide pass into breast milk and may cause liver problems, anemia,
and other unwanted effects in nursing babies especially those with G6PD
deficiency
4.Children-
In effective doses the medicine has not been shown to cause different
side effects or problems than it does in adults.
5.Older adults-
Severe skin problems and blood problems may be more likely to occur
in the elderly. These problems may also likely to occur in patients who are
taking diuretics ( water pills) along with this medicine
6. Other medicines-
When you are taking ssulfonamides and phenazopyridine , it is especialy
important that your doctor if you are taking any other medicines.
7. Other medical problems-
The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of sulfonamide
and phenozopyridine. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any
other medical problems
