My potentiate antihypertensives. High parentral doses may enhance hypoglycaemic action of Insulin in diabetic patients.
Indication:
Intermittant caludication of chronic occlusive arterial disease.
Adverse Reaction:
Fatal haemorrhage(cerbral,GIT) Nausea,GI disturbances,dizziness, headache,flushing,angina, palpitations.Occassional cardiac arrhythmias,hepatitis,jaundice,blood dyscrasias reported.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersens to the drug.Presence of severe haemorrhage,acute M.I.Pregnancy,Porphyria.
Special precautions:
Adjust dosage in patients concomitantly on antihypertensive Adjust dosage of hypoglycaemic agents in patients receiving parenteral Pentoxyphylline therapy concurently.Impaired renal/liver function.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indications:
Intermittant caludication of chronic occlusive arterial disease.
Dosage:
400mg 3 times a day with meals.If GI upsets occur,decrease to 2 times daily.

PENTOXYPHYLLINE - HAEMORHELOGIC AGENT
1.Take with meals
2. Allergy- Tell your doctor if you had any unuusal reation to pentoxyfylline or any food substances, presevatives , dyestuffs etc.
3. Pregnancy- Not studied in pregnant women. studies in animals have shown that it causes birth defects. However at very high doses it has caused other harmfuleffects. Before taking this medicine make sure that your doctor knows if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant.
4. Breast feeding- Passes into breast milk. Medicine has not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies. However pentoxyfylline has caued non cancerous tumors in animals when given for a longer time in doses much higher than used in humans. Dicuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine.
5. Children- Studies done only in adults patients, and no specific information available comparing use of pentoxyfyline with use in other age groups.
6. Older adults- Side effects may be more likely to occur in the elderly who are more sensitive than younger adult to the effects of petoxyfylline
7. Other medicines- Tell your doctor if you are taking other prescription or non prescription OTC medicines
8. Other medical problems- Tell your doctor if you are having any other medical problems especially- Any condition inwhich a riskof bleding -pentoxyfyllie may make the condition worse. Kidney disease or Liver disease -chance of side effects may be increased
9. Dosing- Follow doctors instructions
10. Missed dose- If you miss a dose of this medicine take it as soon as possible. However if it is almost time for your next dose go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
11. Storage- Keep the medicines out of reach of children Store the medicines away heat and direct light Do not store tablets or capsules in the bath room, in damp places near the kitchen sink Heat and dampness will cause the medicines to break down Do not store out dated medicines or medicines no longer needed. Make sure that all discarded medicines are kept out of reach of children
Pharmacology/ Pharmacokinetics:
Pharmacolgy: Pentoxyfylline,a derivative and its metabolites improve blood flow by decreasing blood viscocity. It produces dose-related hemorheologic effects.
Pharmacokinetics: It is extensively absorbed. It undergoes a first pass effect and the various metrabolites appear in plasma very soon after dosing. Plasma level of the parent drug peak within 1 hour.
Interaction with Food:
Administration with meals recommended to minimise GI effects.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy: No adequate studies exist in pregnant women. Use only if clearly needed. Lactation: Pentoxyifylline and its metabolites are excreted in breast milk. Use with caution.
Children: Safety and efficacy for use in children not established
