Drug Interaction:
Potentiates diuretic action of frusemide.
Efficacy increased when given combination of beta-blckrs, reduces lithium clearance, hence dose should be reduced if given concurrently with clopamide.
Reduces effect of oral anticoagulants and hypoglycaemics agents.
Adverse Reaction:
No deaths reported. However in combination with peridol may cause marked hypotension and acute coronary insufficiency in hypertensives.
Hypokalemia(esp in combin with diuretics) Hyperglycaemia may precipitate gout.
Sports events- restricted/banned
Contra-Indications:
Acute glomerulonephritis,severe renal and hepatic failure or resistent hypokaleamia, Hypersens to sulphonamide-type medication,hypocalcemia Addisons disease, pregnancy,breast feeding.
Special precautions:
Increased sensitivity of elderly to diuretics, possible electrolyte imbalance In hypokalaemia a potassium rich diet, potassium supplement or potassium sparing drug may be indicated in digitalized patients, diabetic patients, patients suffering from gout,renal failure, dilutional hyponatraemia in odematous patients.
