Indications-
Infections due to beta-lactamase-producing staphylcocci including
otitis extrena, adjunct in pneumonia, impetigo , cellulitis, osteomyelitis
and in staphyloccal endocarditis
Adverse Reaction:
Side effects-
hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice
Contra-Indications:
Cautions-
Hepatic Disorders-
Cholestatic jaundice and hepatitis may occur very rarely, upto two months
after treatment with flucocloxacin has been stopped. Administration for
more than 2 weeks and increasing age are risk factors
- flucoxacillin should b used to in patients with a history of hepatic dysfunction
associated with fluclocoxacillin
-flucloxacillin should be used with caution in patients with hepatic impairment
- careful inequiry should be made about hypersensitivity reactions to beta-lactam
antibacterials
Renal impairment-
reduce dose if eGFR less than 10mL/minute/1.73m2

Indications-

Dose-
By mouth- 250-500mg every 6 hours at least 30m minutes before food
Child- 1 month- years- 62.5-125mg every 6 hours at least 30 minutes
before food
By intramuscular injection- 250-500mg every 6 hours
Child 1 month- 18 years- by slow interveous injection 0.25- 2g every 6 hours
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy-
not known to be harmful
Breast-feeding-
trace amounts in milk but appropiate to use
