Adverse Reaction:
Side Effects
vaginal bleeding anduterine pain
nausea vomiting or diarrhoea
headache, muscule weakness
dizziness, flushing, chills, backache, dyspnoea
chest pain, palpitations and mild pyrexia
uterine rupture reported (most commonly in multiparas or history of
uterine surgery or if given with intravenous oxytocics)
also reported severe hypotension ,coronary artery spasm
and myocardial infarction
Contra-Indications:
Contraindications
Unexplained vaginal bleeding,
uterine scaring, placenta praevia

Renal impairment-

Surgical ripening prior to first trimester surgical abortion
By vagina 1mg inserted into posterior formix 3 hours before surgery
Second trimester abortion
1mg inserted into posterior fornix every 3 hours for max. of
5 administrations,
second course may begin 24 houts after start of treatment
(if treatment fails pregnancy should be terminated by another method)
Second trimester -uterine death
1mg inserted into posterior fornix every 3 hours for max of 5 administration only,
monitor for coagulopathy
If used in combination with mifepristone, carefully monitor blood pressure and
pulse for 3 hours
