Indications-
Chronic constipation in women when other laxatives fail to
provide an adequate response
Contra-Indications:
Contraindications-
intestinal perforation or obstruction , severe inflammatory conditions
of intestinal tract (such as Crohns disease, ulcerative colitis, and
toxic megacolon)
Cautions-
history of arrhythmias or ischemic heart disease,
concomittant use with drugs that prolong QT intervals
severe, unstable chronic illness
Hepatic impairment-
in severe impairment , initially
1mg once daily , if necessary increased to 2mg once daily
Renal impairment-
max 1mg daily if eGFR (less than 30mL/minute/1.73m2
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indications-
Chronic constipation in women when other laxatives fail to
provide an adequate response
Dose-
Adult over 18 years- 2mg once daily
Elderly- 65 years- 1mg daily increased iof necessary to 2mg once daily
Review treatment if no response after 4 weeks
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy-
manufacturer advices avoid and recommends effective contraception
Breast feeding-
manufacturer advices avoid- present in milk
