Schizophrenia
Adverse Reaction:
Side effects-
occassonally raised erythrcyte sedimentation rate occurs,
hypoglycaemia also reorted
Contra-Indications:
Contraindications-
comatose sates, CNS depression and phaeochromocytoma
Caution-
driving - drowsiness may affect performance of skilled tasks( driving or
operating machinery) especially at start of treatment , effects of alcohol
Withdrawal-
High risks of relapse if medication is stopped after 1-2 years.
Withdrawal after long therapy should always be gradual and monitored
to avoid the risk of acute withdrawal
Hepatic Impairment-
all antipsychotic drugs can precipitate coma if used in hepatic impairment
Renal impairment-
start with small dose of anit-psychotic drugs in severe renal impairment

by mouth- initially 25-50mg daily in divided doses increased as necesary
bed patients 100-200mg daily usually in 3 divided increased if necessary to
1g daily
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy-
extrapyramidal efects and withdrawal syndrome reported occassionally
in the neonates when antipsychotic drugs are taken during the third trimeseter
of pregnancy
