Maintenance of schizophrenia and other psychoses
Adverse Reaction:
Side effects-
pain may occur at injection site and occassionally eryhthema, swelling and nodules
Contra-Indications:
Contraindications-
do not use in children
Cautions-
treatment requires careful monitoring for optimum effect.When transferring
from oral to depot therapy, the dose by mouth should be reduced gradually
Hepatic impairment-
oral treatment preferred in severe hepatic impairment

Indications-
Maintenance of schizophrenia and other psychoses
Injection oily- pipotiazine palmitate 50mg/ml
Dose-
By deep vein intramuscular injection into the gluteal muscle,
test dose 25mg and then a further 25-50mg after 4-7 days
then adjusted according to response at intervals of 4 weeks,
usual maintenance dose- 50-100mg (max. 200mg ) every
4 weeks
Elderly- initially 5-10mg every 4 weeks
Child - not recommended
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy-
avoid unless benefits outweigh risks
Breast-feeding-
use only if potential benefits outweighs risks- small amount
present in milk
