Drug Interaction:
May antagonise the therapeutic effect of antiglaucoma agents
Increased anticholinerigic action or side effects if used with amatadine,
class I antiarrhymatic agents , antihistamines, antipsychotics
eg phenothiazine, benzodiazepines.
Decreased absorption when used with antacids
Indication:
Gastrointestinal tract spasm
Adverse Reaction:
Dry mouth, thirst, dizziness, diarrhoea, asthenia, nervousness,
somloence, palpitations, tacharrhythmias
Rarely fatigue, sedation, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting
Contra-Indications:
GI obstruction, severe ulcerative colitis, reflux osophagitis, obstructive
uropathy, glaucoma, myasthenia gravis
Special precautions-
Patients with coronary artery disease, tacharrhythmias, heart failure
Counselling- the drug may drowsiness, and or blurred vision,
if affected do not drive or operate machinery
Monitoring parameters- monitor anticholinergic effect
GI symptoms - asscess pulse and urinary output
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Gastrointestinal tract spasms
Dosage-
Adult- 10-20mg tid
Child- 6mth to 2yr 5-10mg 3-4 times daily given 15 min before meals
Max- 40mg daily- > 2-12 yrs tid
> 12 yr same as adult dose
