Management of symptoms of opioid withdrawal
Adverse Reaction:
Side effects-
dry mucous membranes, hypotension, bradycardia, dizziness,
drowsiness, QT interval prolongation also reported
Contra-Indications:
Cautions-
severe coronary insufficiency, recent myocardial infarction,
cerbrovascular disease , bradycardia hypotension
(monitor pulse rate and blood pressure) history of QT prolongation,
concomitant administration of drugs that prolong QT interval.
metabolic disturbances, withdraw gradually over 2-4 days(or longer)
to minimise risk of reboud hypertension and associated symptoms,
depression

Indication-
Management of symptoms of opiod withdrawal
Dosage-
Adult and child over 12 years
initially 800 micrograms daily in divided doses ,increased as
necessary in steps of 400-800micrograms daily to max. 2.4mg daily
in divided doses , max single dose 800micrograms
Recommended duration of treatment 7-10 days if no opioid use
(but longer use may be required)
Note- Lofexidine unlicensed for children under 18 years of age
