Drug Interaction:
Coumarin anticoagulants and hypoglycemics agents ( especially sulphonylureas)
Certain anti-inflammatory agents, Uricosuric agents, methotrexate, diuretics, and corticosteroids.
Antacids with enteric coated prepn.
Valproic acids, Acetotazolamide, Highly protein bound drugs
Urinary alkalinizers, Ace inhibitors, betablockers.
Chronic heavy alcohol use
Cimetidine, Contraceptives oral,
Disulfram ,Fluroquimolones,Cipropfloxacin,Enoxacin,
Caffeine metabolism impaired
Phenylpropanolamine - serum caffeine level increased
Smoking- elimination of caffeine enhanced
Mexilitine - caffeine clearance decreased
Contra-Indications:
Peptic ulcer Haemophillia or other bleeding disorders.
Aspirin/anti-inflammatory induced allergies
Viral infection in children and teen agers
Lactation
Special precautions-
Gout
History of bronchospasam or asthma
Impaired renal or hepatic function.
Dyspepsia, diabetes
Elderly
Children
Pregnancy (avoid at term)
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indication
Juvenille rheumatoid arthritis
Dosage-
Aspirin Child- 80-100mg/kg daily in 5 or 6 divided dose Upto 130mg/kg/ daily in acute excerbations if necessary
Pain/inflamtion- adult- initial 2.4- to3.6 g/day in divided doses.
Maintenance - 3.6 to 5.4 g /day .
Monitor serum concentrates
Mild to moderate pain Adult- initial - 325-650mg repeated every 4- 6 hr acccording to response. Max 4g/day also be given Aspirin +Caffeine 2 tabs thrice after food
