Drug Interaction:
Aspirin/paracetamol
Alcohol, corticosteroids, analgin, phenylbutazone may increae risk of GI ulceration.
Aspirin increases phenytoin levels.
May antogonise actions of uricosurics and spironolactone
May potentiate effects of anticogulants, methotrexate and oral hypoglycemics
Codeine- Alcohol, MAOIs CNS depressants, Phenytoin
Indication:
Mild to moderate pain and fever
Adverse Reaction:
Aspirin/paracetamol
GI disturbances, prolonged bleeding time, rhinitis, urticaria and epigastric discomfort Angioedema, salicylism, tinnitus, bronchospasm Gastric erosion, ulceration and bleeding Severe fatal exacerbation of airway obstruction in asthma
Reyes syndrome (children< 12 years ) Hepatoxicity CNS depression which may lead to coma. CV collapse and respiratory failure. Paroxymal bronchospasm and dyspnoea.
Codeine
Drowsiness, impaired reactions, constipation Nausea, dryness of the mouth, depedence, addition, blurred vision, Headache, dizziness, fatigue, Attention disturbances,
Respiratory depression in sensitive patients or if given in large doses.
Contra-Indications:

Hypersentivity - (attacks of asthma, angioedema, urticaria or rhinitis ) Activre peptic ulceration Pregnancy (3rd trimester) Child < 12 years) Patients with haemophillia or haemorsrhagic disorders Gout. Severe renal or hepatic impairment Lactation.
Special precauions-
Histrory of peptic ulcer or those prone to dyspepsia and those with gastric mucosal lesion, Asthma or allergic disorders
Dehydrated patients,
Uncontrolled hypertension,
Impaired renal or hepatic function.

Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indication-
Mild to moderate pain and fever
Dosage-
Aspirin Child- 80-100mg/kg daily in 5 or 6 divided dose Upto 130mg/kg/ daily in acute excerbations if necessary
Pain/inflamtion- adult- initial 2.4- to3.6 g/day in divided doses. Maintenance - 3.6 to 5.4 g /day . Monitor serum concentrates
Mild to moderate pain Adult- initial - 325-650mg repeated every 4- 6 hr acccording to response. Max 4g/day also be given
Pregnancy and lactation:
Contrindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation
Observe caution if use is needed.
