Drug Interaction:
Alcohol and CNS depressants may cause additive CNS depressant effects when used concomittantly.
Indication:
Short acting hypnotic in management of insomnia
Adverse Reaction:
Rare-Thrombocytopenia, purpura, drug idiosyncrasy with fever. Paradoxical excitement in
children, mild GI symptoms, skin rashes.

Dosage:
500 to 1000mg taken 20min before bedtime
Patient Information:
1. May cause drowsiness or dizziness, observe caution while driving or performing other tasks
requiring alertness.
2. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants. Do not exceed prescribed dosage.

Ethnamate is a hypnotic agent and a nonselective CNS depressant
Pharmacokinetics:
Rapidly absorbed from GI tract, partially inactivated in the liver and excreted in the urine .
Following a 1g dose peak plasma levels are reached in about 36 minutes and decline to a
negligible value over 8 hours. Elimination half-life is 2.5 hours. Approximately 36% of the dose
appears in the urine within 24 hours
