SYMPATHOMIMETICS-
ANTITISSIVES - include-Antissives with additional potential: codeine, dihydrocodeine, ethylmorphine, hydrocodone, normethadone, pholcodine(at high doses).
Antitisue reported to be non addtive: chlophedianol, dextromethorphan, oxalamine
Action-
EXPECTORANTS-
Include-ammonium chloride, citrate, guiaphenesin, potassium iodide
Actions- Claimed to reduce the velocity of mucous and increase the secretions of the respiratory tract
MUCOLYTIC
INCLUDE-
Include- acetylcysteine, bromohexine
Action- Liquify mucopurrulent or tenacious sputum by various means
DECONGESTANTS-
May reduce rhinorrhoea. Antihistamine and sympthomimetics are included as such in cough mixtues but there is little evidence of their effect. Adverse reactiions and interactions should be considered
