Potentiation of other CNS depressants including alcohol,sedatives, hypnotics, barbiturates, opoids,antihistamines,and general anaesthetics

Very rare except in combinations with other CNS depressants. Bone marrow suppression. Aplastic anaemia.

Cholestatic jaundice, Cardiac arrhythmias,leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, Dry mouth, Blurring of vision,glaucoma Urinary retension,constipation,

Hypotension,orthostatic hypotension, Galactorrhoea, gynaecomastia, amoenorrea and impotence.

CNS depression and Camatose patients. Bone marrow depression hypersens.

Special precautions:

Extrapyrimidal syndrome.Hypotension. Epilepsy.Impaired hepatic function. Pregnancy,lactation.

Children below 2 years Glaucoma.

Indications:

Severe nausea, and vomiting in adults.

Dosage:

oral- 8 to 16mg daily in divided doses, occassionaly 24mg may be necessary. IM- adults- 5mg repeated every 6 hours as necessary.

Do not exceed 15mg in abulatory and 30mg in hospitalised patients.

Children more than 12 years- the lowest adult dose 5mg. Pediatric doses not established.

Pregnancy: Although studies have not been done in pregnant women,some side effects such as jaundice, and muscle tremors and other movement disorders have been reported.

Lactation: The drug is known to pass into the breast and cause drowsiness and unsual muscle movement in the nursing baby.
