Drug Interaction:
Potentiates CNS depression and adverse cardiac and respiratory effects produced by hypnotics, narcotic analgesics, alcohol, anaesthestics and tricyclic antidepressants. Hypotension and tachycardia with adrenaline.
Hypotensive effects of antihypertensives reduced. Risks of neurotoxicity potentiated by lithium. Absorption reduced by antacids.
Potentiates adverse effects of anticholinergics. Concurrent use of tricyclic anidepressants leads to raise blood levels of both drugs.
Potentiates inhibitory cardiac effcts of quinidine. Potentiation of sedative & antimuscarinic effects with MAOIs. Reduced effects of levodopa.
Adverse Reaction:
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Sudden deaths due to cardiac arrhythmias and arrest. Drowsiness,sedation,
Dry mouth,nasal congestion, blurring of vision, tremor, constipation, Uurinary retension, Tachycardia,postural hypotension,sexual dysfunction.
High doses and prolonged therapy may cause pigmentary retinopathy, tardive dyskinesias.
Contra-Indications:
CNS/Bone marrow supression,pheochromocytoma,severe CVS disorders.
Special precautions: Liver/kidney/CVS/cerebral function impairment,closed angle glaucoma, parkinsonism, diabetes, myasthenia gravis, BHP.

Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy: Although studies have not been done in pregnant women,some side effects,such as jaundice, and muscle tremors and other movement disorders have been reported.
Lactation: The drug is known to pass into the breast milk and cause drowsiness and unusual muscle movement in the nursing baby.
