Pharmacology/ Pharmacokinetics:
Pharmacology:
Carisoprodol Carisoprodol is congener of mebrobamate. The mode of action is not clearly understood, but may be related to sedative properties. It probably relieves muscle spasm by blocking intermeuronal activity and depressing transmission of polysynaptic neurons in the spinal cord and in desending reticular formation.
. The drug has a rapid inset of action(within 30 min) with a sustained effect for about 4-6 hrs, following oral administration. Ibuprofen Ibuprofen is well known nonsteroidal antinflammatory drug which possesses useful analgesic and antipyretic properties.
The analgesic effects of ibuprofen are due to pripheral action and are distinct fromits property as an antiflammatory drug.
The FDC of carisprodol and ibuprofen, because of their primary central muscle relaxant and antiflammatory-analgesic actions respectively, comprehensively and effectively treats muscle spasms, pain, and inflammation associated with acute muscloskeletal conditions.
Pharmacokinetics:
Carisprodol is well absorbed from the GIT. Following oral administration, its effects begin within about 30 min and last for 4-6 hrs.. The drug is metabolised in the liver and execreted in the urine as metabolites, including meprobamate.
It is distributed substantially into the breast milk. Ibuprofen is well absorbed from the GIT and peak plasma levels occur about 1-2 hrs after ingestion.
The drug is 90-99% plasma protein bound and has a half-life of 2 hrs.
It is rapidly excreted in the urine mainly as metabolites and their congugates. their appears to be little, if any, distribution into the breast milk.
Interaction with Food:
Take preferably after food.
