Cyclobenzaprine, Methocarbinol, Metaxalone, Dantrolenes Sodium, Orphenadrine.
Refer Orphenadrine
Alcohol and other CNS depressants. potentiated.
Drug/Lab test interactions:
Methocarbamol may cause a color interference in certain screening tests for
5-hydroxyindolacetic acid(5-HIAA) and Vanilmandelic acid(VMA).
Indication:
Adjunct therapy for relief of discomfort of acute painful musculo-skeletal conditions.
Skeletal Muscle Relaxant include- Carisprodal, Chlorphenesin Maleate, Chlorzoxazone, Chlormezanone,
Cyclobenzaprine, Methocarbinol, Metaxalone, Dantrolenes Sodium, Orphenadrine.
Refer Orphenadrine
Adverse Reaction:
Parentral- Certain reactons may have been due to overly rapid rate ofIV injection.
Cardiovascular- Syncope, hypotension, bradycardia, .In most cases of syncope there was spontaneous recovery.
In otheres, epinephrine injectabe steroids or injectable histamine were employed to hasten recovery.
CNS- Dizziness, lightheadedness, vertigo, headache, drowsiness, fainting, mild muscular incordination
Reports of convulsive seizure during IV use include instances in epileptics. Psychic trauma of the procedures may be a contributing factor.
Several observers have reported success in terminating epileform seizures with methocarbamol, but its use with epilepsy in patients is not recommended.
Ophthamic- Blurred vision, conjuctivitis with nasal congestion, nystagmus, diplopia.
Dermatologic- Urticaria, pruritus, rash, flushing
Miscellaneous- GI upset, metallic taste, sloughing or pain at the injection site, thrombophlebitis
anaphylactic reaction,fever.
Oral: Lightheadednes, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, urticaria, pruritus, rash, conjuntivitis, with nasal congestion, blurred vision, headache, fever.
Drowsinees, dizziness, G.I.disturbances, blurred vision, headache.
With injection: Fushing, syncope, hypotension, bradycardia, convulsions, interferes with screening test for VMA.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity to methocarbamol or any ingreident in the product.
Parentral- Due to the presence of polythene glycol 300 in the vehicle, do not administer parentral
methocarbamol to patients with known or suspected renal pathology.
Special precautions:
Renal impairmaent, acidosis, epilepsy, safety in lactation and pregnancy, children below 12 years not established.
Warning-
Pregnancy-Safe use of methocarbamol has not been established with regard to possible adverse effects upon feotal development. Therefore do not use the drug in women who are or may become
pregnant, particularly during early pregnancy, unless the potential benefits outweigh the possble hazards.
Lactation- Excercise caution while administering to a nursing woman. The American Academamy of Pediatrics classifies methocarbomaol as compatible with breast feeding.
Children- Safety and efficay for use in children < 12 years of age are not established, except in tetanus.
Precautions-
Rate of injection should not exceed 3ml/minute. Sine the solution is isotonic avoid vascular extravasation. A recumbent position reduces likelihood of severe adverse reaction.
Total parental dosage should not exceed 3g per day for > 3 consecutive days, except in treatment of titanus.
Epilepsy- Use the injectable form cautiously in suspected or known epileptics
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indications:
Adjunct therapy for relief of discomfort of acute painful musculo-skeletal conditions.
Dosage::
Parentral-IV or IM use only
Do not exceed adult dose of 3mg per day, for more than 3 consecutive days, except in
the case treatment of titanus.
Oral-- Adults- 1.5g 4 times daily.
Overdosage-
Symptoms
Overdose, often in conjunction with alcohol or other CNS depressants, is marked by coma and other signs of CNS depression.
Treatment
1. Supportive
Missed dose-
1. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible.
2. However, if it is almost time for next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Pharmacology/ Pharmacokinetics:
Pharmacology:
Mechanism of action has not been established, but may be due to general CNS depression. The drug has no direct action on contractile mechanism of straited muscle. It does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles.
Pharmacokinetics:
Methacarbamol has an onset of action of 30 minutes. Paek plasma levels occur approximately 2 hours after administration of 2g. The half-life is from 1 to 2 hours; inactive metabolites are exceted in the urine and small amounts in the feces.
Interaction with Food:
None reported.
