For the treatment of Anorexia, Cachexia, or an unexplained ,
significant weight loss in patients with a diagnosis of cancer or
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)
Decreases indinavir levels.
May increase insulin requirements
Adverse Reaction:
Weight gain, nausea, vomiting
Edema, breakthrough bleeding
Thrombo-embolic disorders
DVT
Adrenal suppression
Heart failure
GI upset, dyspnea,
Lumor flare
Hypertension, hyperglycemia
Mood changes, hot flushes, sweating, rash
Carpal Tunnel syndrome
Contra-Indications:
Pregnancy
Lactation
Special precautions-
History of thrombopheblitis
Severe hepatic impairment
Diabetes ( monitor blood levels )
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indication-
Palliative treatment of recurrent inoperable or metastatic carcinoma of the breast
Breast cancer -
160mg daily as a single or divided doses
Endometrial cancer -
40 - 320mg daily as divided doses
Both for a minimum period of 2 months
Children- not applicable
Pregnancy and lactation:
Contraindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation .
Observe caution if required to be administered
