Indication:
Symptomatic relief of dysuria, urgency, frequency and incontinence as may occur in incontinence
Adverse Reaction:
Nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, nervousness, Vertigo, headache, drowsiness, Mental confusion (esp in elderly patients), Hyperptrexia, blurred vision, Increased ocular tension, disturbance in accomodation, Urticaria, dermatosis, dysuria, tachycardia, palpitations.
Contra-Indications:
Pyloric or duodenal obstruction, obstructive intestinal lesions or ileus, achalsia, GI haemorrhage, obstructive uropathies of the lower urinary tract. Special precautions:: Give cautiously in patients with glaucoma Pregnancy- use only when needed. Lactation- use with caution when adminstered to nursing women.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indications::
Symptomatic relief of dysuria, urgency, nocturia, subrapubic pain, frequency and incontinece.
Dosage:
Adults and children(more than 12 years)- 100 to 200mg 3 or 4 times daily. Reduce dosage when symptoms improve.
Patient Information:
1.These agents may cause drowsiness or blurred vision; observe caution while driving or performing tasks requiring alertness or; coordination or physical dexterity.
2.May cause dry mouth.
3. Allergies- Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reactions to flavoxate Also tell your doctor if your are allergic to any other substances such as foods, preservatives or dyes.
4. Pregnancy- flavoxate has not been reported to cause birth defects or other problems in animal studies
5.Children- this medicine is notexpected to cause different side effects or problems in children than it does in adults.
6. Breast feeding- flavoxate has not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies
7. Elderly- confusion is most likely to ocur in elderly people who are especially sensitive to the effects of flavoxate.
8. Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following- Any non prescription drugs or OTC medicines
9. Other medical problems- presence of other medical problems may afect the use of this medicine- Bleeding severe or Glaucoma or Intestinal blockage or Urinary tract blockage -use of flavoxate may make these conditions worse Enlarged prostrate - use of flavoxate may cause dificult urination
12. Missed dose- If you miss a dose of this medicine take it as soon as possible. However if it is almost time for your next dose go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Pharmacology:
Counteracts smooth muscle spasm of the urinary tract. Flavoaxte relaxes the detrustor and other smooth muscle by cholinergic blockade. It also exerts a direct effect on the muscle. It has anticholinergic,local anesthetic and analgesic properties.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy:
There are no well controlled studies in pregnant women. Therefore the use during pregnancy only when clearly needed.
Lactation:
It is not known whether the drug is excreted in breast milk. Use caution when Flavoate is administered to nursing woman.
