Indication Type Description:
Drug Interaction:
Smoking,beta-blckrs,and methylsergide,increase risk of vascular occlution.
Simultaneous use with contraceptives increase risk of thrombosis.
Erythromycin increases plasma concentration of ergometrine.
Vasoconstritor effects enhanced by sympathomimetics agents such as adrenaline.
Indication:
Migraine

Oxytocin 5 units per ml injection
Adverse Reaction:
Due to vascualar occlusion causing gangrene.
M.I.bowel necrosis, renal failure.
Simulataneous use of beta-blkrs or contraceptives increases the risk.
Muscle cramps, stiffness, tiredness, numbness and tingling of exremities.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea.
Rarely ergotism consisting of severe peripheral vasoconstriction, hypertension and gangrene of
extremities.
Anginal type pain and transcient tachycardia or bradycardia.
Contra-Indications:
Hypertension, vascular and valvular diseases, pregnancy.
Special precautions:
Hepatic/renal disease, chronic pulmonary disease, children.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Migraine
! -2 mg repeated after 30 min if needed
Max - 6mg/ 24 hours
12mg/week
Ensure an interval of at least 4 days between sucessive 24 hour courses.
May also be given sub lingually
Patient Information:
May cause transient nausea and GI disturbances Allow sublingual tablets to completely dissolve under tongue
