Failure of contraceptives. Reduced absorption in presence of food. Plasma concentrtion increased by Probenecid.

Adverse Reaction:
Hypersens, pseudomembranous colitis, rash, diarrhoea, super infection,
rarely convulsions in high doses.
Raised SGOT(IM use).
Interferes with estimation of serum albumin, urine electrophoreses for aminoacids,stick tests for urinary glucose.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersens to penicillin,infectious mononueclosis,resistence
Special precautions:
Lactation, renal imapirment (for parental therapy).

Dosage:
Becampicillin is hydrolysed to Ampicillin from the GI tract, hence more completely absorbed than Ampicillin.
It is administered in lower total daily doses and acheives effective serum levels when given every 12 hours.
Upper/lower respiratory tract infection:
Adults more than 25kg- 400mg every 12 hours..
Children: 25mg/kg/day in equally divided doses every 12 hours.
Severe infection or those caused by suceptible organisms:
Adults more than 25kg - 800mg every 12hours
Children - 50mg/kg/day in equally divided doses every 12 hours.
Tablets may may given without regards to meals
Administer suspension to fasting patients.
