Concomittant administration of high doses of antacids like sodium bicarbonate or Aluminium hydroxide or H2 blocks, decreases the paek plasma levels by 24- 42% and the extent of absorption by 27- 32%.
Oral anticholinegics delay the attainment of peak plasma levels but not affect the extent of absorption. Renal excretion is inhibited by probenecid, resulting in increase in AUC and also peak Cefpodoxine levels
Indication:
Adverse Reaction:
Pseudomembrane colitis, Anaphylactic shock, Acute liver injury in utter exposure with miscarriage. Purpuric nephritis, Pulmonary infiltrate with eosinophilia Eye lid dermatitis.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity to the drug
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Approved by FDA on August, 1992
Dosage: Adults- total daily dose- 400mg given 200mg every 12 hours for 14 days
Children- Total daily dose - 10mg/kg/day given 10mg/kg/every 24 hours for10 days
