Adverse Reaction:
Anaphylactic reactions. Hypersensitivity, pseudomembraneous colitis, Renal impairment, transcient leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, Superinfection(candidasis), G.I.upsets, phlebitis and thrombophlebitis at site of injection. Raised blood urea, serum creatinine, hepatic enzymes. Eosinophillia, positive coombs test. Interferes with urinary glucose estimation.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersens to cephalosporins.
Special precautions: Acutely ill elderly patients.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
A 3rd generation drug
Dosage:
Usual recommended dose 1g IV or IM, 8 to 12hours. Neonates- 0 to 4 weeks- 30mg/kg IV 12 hourly.
Infants/children- 1month to 12 years- 30mg/kg IV to a maximum of 6g/day 8 hourly.
Storage: When reconstituted, the solution maintains potency for 18 to 24 hours at room temp or for 7 to 10days, if refrigerated.
