Drug Interaction:
Potentiates nephrotoxicity produced by other nephrotoxicdrugs including aminoglycosides, vancomycin and some cephalosporins.
Potentiates ototoxicity produced by other aminoglycosides, ethacryanic acid. Ototoxicity potentiated by frusemide.
Plasma levels increased by indomethicin.
Antihistamines(H1 receptor blocker)may mask early signs of ototoxicity.
Incompatible with some beta-lactum antibiotics.
Indication:
Septicaemia Respiratory ,urinary tract infections Burns
Adverse Reaction:
Acute renal failure especially in combination with other neprotoxic drugs,respiratory depression. Ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity (peripheral neuropathy, confusion, Lethargy, hallucination,
Convulsion and mental depression, Occasional respiratory depression,
Rarely hypersensitivity reactions. Subconjunctivial injection: Pain,hyperaemia and conjunctival oedema. Intraoccular injection: Retinal ischemia.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersens to the drug or other aminoglycosides,pregnancy.
Special precautions:
Renal impairment, myasthenia gravis, parkinonism, de-hydration, hypotension, liver impairment.

3mg/kg body weight in 3 divided doses
