Drug Interaction:
Potentiates anticoagulants, methotrexate and phenytoin. Enhances sulphonylurea. Antogonised by p-aminobenzoic acid and procaine
Indication:
Respiratory tract infections Skin infections. Urinary tract infections Ear, nose, throat infections
Adverse Reaction:
Hypersensitivity, nephrotoxicity, Blood dyscrasias, Haemolytic anaemia, G6PD( deficiency), Jaundice and kemicterus in new born. GI upsets, lumbar pain, Haematuria, Oliguria, Thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, eosinophilia, Hepatic damage, Superinfection of G.I.T. Hypoglycaemia, Ataxia, drowsiness, Convulsions, Optic neuropathy and psychoses.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersens to sulphonamides, acute prophyria, SLE, G6PD deficiency, new born, late labour.
Special precautions:
Renal/hepatic impairment, Blood disorders, Regular blood counts and urine analysis.
