Sodium PAS +
Digoxin
Digoxin- Oral absorption of digoxin is reduced with subsequent reduction in serum levels by PAS. Digoxin doses need to be increased. Vitamin B12 Oral decr Vitamin B12 (oral)- deficiency induced due to PAS interference of its GI absorption. Parentral vitamin B12 may be required.
Indication:
Treatment of tuberculosis in combination with other anti-tuberculer drugs
Adverse Reaction:
Most common- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain.
Less common- hypersensitivity- fever, skin eruptions of various types.
Contra-Indications:
Severe hypersensitivity to aminosalicylate sodium and its congeners. stop all medications if hypersensitivity develops
After the symptoms have abated restart medications one at a time. in small but gradually increasing doses
Special precautions:
Gastric ulcer- use cautiously in patients with gastric ulcer.
Crystalluria- may be prevented by maintaining the urine at alkaline pH.
Tablet discoloration- Aminosalicylate tablets deterioates rapidly in contact with water, heat and sunlight. A brownish or purplish colour of powder or tablet especially made with them is indicative of such deteriotion. If deterioration is evident, discard the tablet.
Use with caution in patients with known or impending congestive heart failure and in other situations in which excess sodium is potentially harmful.

Indication
Treatment of tuberculosis in combination with other anti-tuberculer drugs
Dosage-
Adults- 14 to 16g/day in 2 or 3 divided doses
Children- 275 to 420mg/kg in 3 or 4 divided doses daily
Patient Information:
1.Take medicines as directed.
2.Do not stop taking medicines without consulting your doctor.
3. May cause stomach upset. take with meals.
4. Do not use products that are brown in colour. Aminosalicylic acid will not work if it gets wet, or if left in extreme heat, or direct sunlight. Therefore, do not store in kitchen or bath room.
5.Notify doctor if , fever, sore throat, unusual bleeding or bruising occurs.
