+ Capromycin

Aminoglycosides

Aminoglycosides and careomycin coadministration increase the risk of respiratory paralysis and renal dysfunction

Nondepolarising neuromuscular blocking agents

Nondepolarisizing neuromuscular blockade enhanced by concurrent capreomycin due to a synergistic effect on myoneural function

Indication:

Concomittant use with anti-tubercular drugs

Adverse Reaction:

Nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, pain and induaration at injection site, sterile abscesses.

Contra-Indications:

Hypersens to the drug

Renal function impairment -osager reduction necesary

Pregnancy- use only if clearly required. safety for use during pregnancy notestablished

Lactation- excercise caution when administering to nursing mothers

Children- safety for use not established

Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:

Indication:

Concomittant use with anti-tubercular drugs

Dosage:

Usual- 1g daily (not to exceed 20mg/kg/day) given IM for 60 to 120 days, followed by 1g IM 2 or 3 times weekly.

Capromycin- Systemic

1.Allergies-

Tell your doctor if you are have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to

capreomycin. Also tell your healthcare care professional if you are allergic to

any other substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.

2.Pregnancy-

Capreomycin has not been studied in pregnant women. However, studies in

rats 3 1/2 times the human dose have shown that capreomycin may cause birth

defects.

3. Breast-feeding-

It is known whether capreomycin passes into breast milk. Although most medicines

pass into breast milk in small amounts,many of them may be used safely while

breasr-feeding. Mothers who are taking this medicine and who wish to breast feed

should discuss this with their doctor.

4.Children-

Studies of this medicine have been done only in adult patients and there is no specific

information comparing use of capreomycin in children with use in other age groups.

5.Older adults-

Many medicines have not been studied specifically in older people. Therefore,

it may not be known whether they work exactly the same way than they do in

younger adults, or if they cause different side effects or problems in older people.

There is no specific information comparing use of capreomycin in the elderly with use

in other age groups

6. Other medicines-

Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two

different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur.

In such cases your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions

may be necessary.

When you are receiving capreomycin it is especially important that your doctor

know if you taking any of the following-

Aminoglycosides by injection , Amikacin (eg Amikin ), gentamicin (eg Geramycin)

Kanamycin (eg.Kantrex) Neomycin (eg,Mycifradin)

Carmustine (eg BiCU)

Chloroquine (eg Aralen)

Cisplatin (eg Platinol)

Cyclosporine (eg Sandimmune)

Gold salts

Quinine (eg Quinamm)

Tiopronin (eg Tiola) - use of any of these medicines wirh capreomycin

may increase th chance of hearing balance , or kidney side effects

7. Other medical problems-

The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of capreomycin

Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems

especially-

Eighth -cranial nerve - disease ( loss of hearing and /or balance) -

Capreomycin may cause hearing and balance side efects

Kidney disease- capreomycin may cause serious side effects affecting the

kidneys

Myasthenia gravis- or

Parkinsons disease - capreomycin may cause muscular weakness

Pharmacology:

A polypeptide antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces capreolus

Pharmacokinetics:

Capreomycin not absorbed from GI tract and must be administered parentrally. Capreomycin is excreted essentially unaltered ;52% is excreted in the urine within 12 hours

Pregnancy and lactation:

Pregnancy:

Safety for use during pregnancy has not been established.

Lactation:

Not known whether the drug is excreted in breast milk. Excercise caution while administering to nursing mothers.

Children:

Safety for use in children has not been established.
