Adverse Reaction:
Iron Salts- GI irritation, anorexia, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea. Stools may appear darker in colour. Iron containing liquids may cause temporary staining of teeth. Dilute the liquid to reduce this possibility. When iron containing drops are given to infants, some darkening of the membrane covering the teeth may occur.
Contra-Indications:
Iron Salts- Hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, hemolytic anemias. Special precautions: Individuals with normal iron balance should not take iron chronically. Intolerance - discontinue use if symptoms of intolerance appear. Occasional GI discomfort such as nausea may be minimised by taking with meals and increasing to the recommended dose.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Prophylaxis of iron and folic acid deficiencies during pregnancy and lactation 1 cap daily throughout pregnancy and lactation
